The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has assumed control of the investigation into the death of 20-year-old IIT-Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who was found dead in his hostel room on Friday. Wakode's parents had initially refused to claim his body from Rajawadi Hospital for over seven hours, demanding the arrest of the accused individuals named in their complaint. An FIR has been registered for abetment of suicide under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, with additional provisions of the Prevention of Atrocities Act invoked following allegations of casteist harassment. The FIR identifies a senior professor and other unnamed senior officials at the institute as suspects. This incident marks the third student suicide reported on the IIT-Bombay campus this year.
