Mumbai FDA Suspends Licences of 13 Eateries Over Severe Hygiene Violations

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration suspended licences and issued closure orders to 13 food establishments in Mumbai during a festive-season inspection drive conducted between September 23 and 27. Among the targeted venues was the century-old Kyani & Co in Kalbadevi, where inspectors found cats, rat droppings, live flies, dead cockroaches, blood inside a refrigerator, and an open sewage manhole. Other penalized establishments included Colaba Sweet Mart, where officials discovered live lizards and cockroaches, and a Subway outlet at Phoenix Mills in Lower Parel that featured mould and a foul-smelling refrigerator. Across the state, the FDA suspended licences for 30 establishments and seized 50,601.78 kg of unsafe food products valued at approximately ₹1.19 crore. The affected eateries were ordered to immediately halt all manufacturing, storage, and distribution of food items.
