Mystery Pilots Avert Disaster on Israel-Bound Flydubai Flight
· World · The Independent, Hindustan Times
Two off-duty Flydubai pilots traveling as deadheading passengers intervened to stabilize an Israel-bound flight after the copilot physically attacked the captain in the cockpit. Passenger Daniel Schlichter recounted that the injured captain managed to unlock the cockpit door while passengers subdued the copilot, allowing the off-duty pilots to rush in and take control of the aircraft. The extreme descent during the altercation tore away part of the plane's rudder and prompted an emergency mayday call. Flydubai has acknowledged the crew members were on board but has not publicly identified the individuals who seized the controls.
