Naga Peace Activist Niketu Iralu Passes Away at 91

Prominent Naga peace activist Niketu Iralu died on Tuesday at a hospital in New Delhi at the age of 91. A resident of Sechü Zubza in Nagaland's Kohima district, Iralu spent more than six decades promoting ethnic reconciliation and dialogue across the Northeast. He was associated with Initiatives of Change and served in key roles including member of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation and trustee of the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research. Leaders across Nagaland, including Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak, paid tributes to his lifelong bridge-building efforts. Throughout his career, he received several honours, including the Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award in 2011 and the Bhupen Hazarika Integration Award in 2023.
