The Bombay High Court granted bail to Sachin Prakashrao Andure on Tuesday, suspending his sentence pending his appeal against conviction in the 2013 murder of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar. A division bench of Justices Sarang V Kotwal and Ranjitsinha R Bhonsale allowed the interim application on a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 and matching sureties. The court directed Andure to report to the Pune Police every month for a year, and four times a year thereafter until his appeal is resolved. Defence advocates argued that an extra-judicial confession was recorded and that investigators failed to conduct a Test Identification Parade or recover the weapon. In May 2024, a special court had sentenced Andure and co-convict Sharad Bhausaheb Kalaskar to life imprisonment for shooting Dabholkar during his morning walk in August 2013, while acquitting three others.
