Naveen Patnaik Demands CEC Resignation Over Electoral Roll Revision Dissent

Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Bhubaneswar on Friday. His remarks followed a newspaper report revealing that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected at least 14 times over the past 10 months to decisions made by the CEC. The internal disquiet centers around the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which includes the deletion and addition of voter names and access to voter data. Mr Patnaik stated that the BJD has opposed the SIR process from the beginning due to discrepancies that allegedly deleted over 25 lakh eligible voters in Odisha.
