NCB busts cross-border heroin cartel in Jammu; mastermind among 3 arrested with 5.16 kg heroin
· India · The Hindu, NDTV
The Narcotics Control Bureau busted a cross-border drug trafficking cartel in Jammu, seizing 5.16 kg of heroin and arresting three people, including the suspected mastermind. Acting on intelligence, NCB intercepted a vehicle at Panjtirthi in Jammu on August 22 and recovered heroin from two occupants who reside in Baramulla. Follow-up leads led the agency to trace and arrest the suspected mastermind in Leh district of Ladakh on August 24. Preliminary investigations indicate the seized contraband originated in Pakistan and entered India through the Uri border sector. The agency plans to investigate cross-border suppliers, financial links, and local associates involved in the network.
Why it matters
This operation disrupts a major cross-border narcotics supply chain operating into Jammu & Kashmir, targeting network masterminds rather than low-level carriers.
