NCERT Reconstitutes Political Science Textbook Team for Classes 11 and 12
· India · Indian Express, India Today, The Hindu
The NCERT has formed a new Textbook Development Team to revise political science curricula for Classes 11 and 12 with an emphasis on Indian knowledge systems and cultural rootedness. The team is led by Sandeep Shastri, vice president of the Nitte deemed university in Karnataka. Several members, including Yadunath Deshpande, Vandana Mishra, and Ravi Rameshchandra Shukla, have documented backgrounds in RSS-affiliated organisations like the ABVP or Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini. The council has set a deadline of November for the Class 11 textbook and July next year for the Class 12 edition. This follows the recent withdrawal of a Class 8 textbook chapter regarding judicial corruption.
Why it matters
The revision signals a shift in the national school curriculum toward incorporating specific cultural and ideological perspectives, directly impacting the political science education of millions of Indian students.
