Nepal Headmaster Ravindra Dadabi Saved 1,643 Students In Nuwakot Floods
· World · LiveMint, NDTV, The Independent
School headmaster Ravindra Dadabi evacuated all 1,643 students from his three-story school in Battar, Nuwakot district, moments before floodwaters swept the building away on 26 August. The school sits near the Trashuli river and was hit by flash floods triggered by a glacier collapse. Dadabi rang the school bell, sent pupils and staff to higher ground, and called inbound bus drivers to turn back before the waters arrived. The MEA says 88 Indians have been rescued while 287 remain missing from the wider Nepal floods.
Why it matters
Dadabi's rapid decisions saved an entire school in a disaster that has killed hundreds across Nepal, while hundreds of Indian nationals caught in the floods remain unaccounted for, raising diplomatic pressure on New Delhi to assist with rescue efforts.
