At 9.02 am on Wednesday, Kharil called a junior colleague to direct staff to higher ground before his phone transmitted its last location twenty-four minutes later. Nepalese authorities reported the official death toll at 547 on Friday evening as search and rescue operations continued from the Shree No. 1 Military Training Centre in Trishuli. India's Ministry of External Affairs stated that at least 320 Indian nationals and over 100 people of Indian origin are among the missing. Security personnel issued warnings regarding an impending second flood following reports of a barrier lake breach in the higher regions.
