Rajendra Dawadi, principal of Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nepal's Trishuli Valley, successfully evacuated 1,643 students to safety after receiving a flood warning. The disaster was triggered by a glacier collapse that sent muddy floodwaters, rock, and debris tearing through mountain river systems near the Nepal-Tibet border. The flash floods resulted in 734 deaths in Nepal and 16 in Tibet, with thousands more reported missing across both regions. Dawadi acted within minutes after a parent and friend alerted him to the rapidly rising water levels. The students took shelter beneath a bodhi tree while their school buildings were swept away, though social history teacher Santos Pariyar was tragically killed.
