Nestle India shares drop 3% after FSSAI launches legal action over three baby food products
· Business · LiveMint, Moneycontrol, Economic Times
Nestle India's shares declined 3% on September 18 after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India initiated legal action over three products — Infant Nutrition, NAN Excella, and Lactogen — for failing to meet Biotin requirements. The regulator filed three adjudication cases following laboratory test results that found one sample below the prescribed Biotin level, with a repeat analysis confirming the non-conformity. The stock touched a low of ₹1,332.80 per share on the BSE, down from a 52-week high of ₹1,553 reached in August 2026. FSSAI said the action forms part of its ongoing food-safety enforcement efforts.
Why it matters
Nestle India shareholders and consumers of its infant nutrition range face immediate market volatility and potential product scrutiny, as the regulator's action underscores stricter enforcement of nutritional standards for baby foods.
