New York recorded the largest net outflow of Gen Z adults in the United States during 2024, with 29,554 more young people leaving the metropolitan area than arriving. Many are relocating to nearby cities like Philadelphia, which saw 9,284 arrivals from New York, driven by significantly lower housing costs. While the average home price in the New York metro area is approximately $832,000, comparable properties in Philadelphia sell for about $309,000. Other major cities including Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Detroit also experienced significant net losses of Gen Z residents. Conversely, cities such as San Antonio, Washington, DC, and Austin recorded the highest net gains for the demographic.
