New Zealand Cricket has stepped back from its partnership with True North Sports Ventures, canceling plans to launch a Major League Cricket franchise for the 2027 season. NZC Chief Executive Geoff Allott announced that the board evaluated the opportunity but concluded the timing is wrong for expansion into the American market. The organization had signed an agreement with the US company in April of the previous year to explore teams in cities including Toronto and Atlanta. Allott confirmed that NZC did not invest any capital into the partnership. The league currently operates six teams and plans to expand to ten franchises.
