Newlywed abducted, high-speed crash injures six in Bengaluru police rescue
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Pooja, 21, was allegedly abducted by four men sent by her family after she married Om Prakash in a love marriage; the couple had settled in Bengaluru's Agrahara Dasarahalli. Around 8 p.m., the abductors' vehicle collided with several other cars, injuring six people including Jayalakshmi, 57, who sustained a head injury and remains in ICU. Police arrested three suspects — Rakesh, Karan, and Ayan — all from Rajasthan, and rescued Pooja; the alleged driver Saddam remains absconding. The vehicle used in the abduction has been seized and the accused are in police custody.
Why it matters
The rescue of a newly married woman from a family-arranged abduction highlights ongoing resistance to love marriages in parts of Rajasthan, while the high-speed crash that injured six bystanders underscores the public safety risk of such forced removals. The injured, including a woman in critical condition, require continued medical care, and the police investigation into the gang's network and the driver's whereabouts is ongoing.
