NIA Arrests Accused In VHP Leader Killing After Deportation From UAE

· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times

The National Investigation Agency arrested Harwinder Kumar alias Sonu upon his arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi following his deportation from the United Arab Emirates. The arrest is linked to the targeted killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Vikas Prabhakar, who was shot at his confectionery shop in Nangal, Roopnagar, on April 13, 2024. Investigators stated that Kumar operated from the UAE as a logistic provider, recruiter, and financer for the banned terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International. The conspiracy was allegedly orchestrated by Germany-based operatives Harjit Singh and Kulbeer Singh. The agency has previously filed three chargesheets and arrested another UAE-based suspect, Manveer Ram, in August 2026.

Why it matters

The deportation and arrest mark a significant step in dismantling international terror financing and logistics networks operating against domestic leaders.
