Nine Arrested in Gujarat After Woman and Partner Face Public Torture
· India · Times of India, Indian Express
Police in Surendranagar, Gujarat, arrested nine people, including a woman's husband and his relatives, following a brutal vigilante attack. The victim had left her husband in Vapi and moved in with her partner in Chotila before being tracked down and subjected to a forced purification ritual on October 4. The accused thrashed the couple with wooden sticks, tied the man to a tree, and forced him to perform sexual acts and drink urine while recording the ordeal on mobile phones. Authorities traced the victim after the assault videos circulated widely on social media and a community leader alerted law enforcement. Surendranagar DSP Premsukh Delu stated that police located the woman during house searches in the area and brought her to the station for counseling.
