NIOS Launches 6-Month Bridge Course for B.Ed Primary Teachers

· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has launched a six-month Certificate (Bridge) Course in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) for in-service primary school teachers appointed between June 28, 2018, and August 11, 2023, who hold a B.Ed degree. Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the course in New Delhi on September 16, aligning it with the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) framework. The course, offered through open and distance learning, includes theoretical learning, practical classroom experience, and contact classes. It aims to provide teachers with the necessary training to teach Classes 1 to 5 effectively, following a Supreme Court judgment from April 2024.

Why it matters

Over 100,000 primary school teachers in India, who were appointed without a D.El.Ed. qualification, will gain formal certification to teach primary classes, improving educational standards. This initiative ensures compliance with NCTE guidelines and enhances the professional development of teachers across the country.
