· Sports · NDTV Sports, Sportstar
Nitesh Siwach has advanced to the men's 97kg Greco-Roman wrestling final at the Asian Games after securing a dominant technical-superiority victory. This performance puts him just one win away from delivering India its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling. The win marks a historic milestone for Indian wrestling, a discipline where the country has traditionally struggled to secure top-tier podium finishes. Siwach will now face his opponent in the final match to determine whether India achieves this long-awaited breakthrough.
Why it matters
A gold medal in this category would represent India’s first-ever Asian Games gold in Greco-Roman wrestling, marking a historic high for the sport in the country. It would elevate the profile of wrestling in India and inspire a new generation of athletes in a discipline that has historically received less attention than freestyle wrestling or other sports. The outcome of the final will determine whether India secures its most significant wrestling achievement to date.
