NITI Aayog Proposes 'Second Bengaluru' To Ease Infrastructure Pressure

NITI Aayog vice-chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri has advised the Karnataka government to develop a second major city to reduce the growing infrastructure strain on Bengaluru. The proposal was made during a meeting with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Chief Minister acknowledged the city's rapid population growth, citing that Bengaluru currently hosts 26 lakh IT professionals and produces 13,000 doctors and 1.6 lakh engineers annually. Shivakumar stated that the state will prepare a formal plan to address these concerns and examine strategies adopted by other states.
