Nitin Gadkari Claims Mumbai-Pune Expressway Has No Potholes in 27 Years

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari stated at the Festival of Thinkers lecture series in Pune that the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has not developed a single pothole in the 27 years since he built it. Gadkari lamented that he frequently receives social media criticism for road problems executed by state governments, citing recent issues with the newly opened Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link. The 13-km bypass through the Sahyadri mountains opened on May 1 to reduce travel distance by 5.7 km and cut journey times between Mumbai and Pune. The route recently faced criticism after monsoon rains triggered a landslide that blocked the Pune-to-Mumbai carriageway just nine weeks after its ₹6,695-crore inauguration.
