Nitin Gadkari Expresses Shame Over Prolonged Mumbai-Goa Highway Delays

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari stated at an event in Porvorim, Goa, that he is ashamed of the severe delays surrounding the Mumbai-Goa Highway expansion project. Speaking at the inauguration of a newly opened 5.15km elevated road built by RRSM Infra Private Limited for ₹364.68 crore, Gadkari blamed failing contractors and announced he would skip the final inauguration of the highway. The project, initiated in 2011 to convert the old two-lane route into a four-lane road, aimed to reduce travel time from 12 hours to six hours. Gadkari noted that the highway is currently 93 to 94 percent complete and expressed his intention to inspect the remaining work by car in October 2026.
