NMC adds 13,186 medical seats across India as Karnataka leads growth

The National Medical Commission has approved an increase of 13,186 MBBS seats across 27 Indian states and Union Territories, bringing the total medical seat count in the country to 140,214.' recorded the highest growth with 1,650 new seats, accounting for approximately one-eighth of the total additions. Tamil Nadu followed with 1,250 seats, while Bihar and Uttar Pradesh added 1,240 and 1,200 seats respectively. Despite these additions, seven states and Union Territories including Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands saw no increase in their medical capacity. The Medical Counselling Committee has released the provisional Round 2 allotment results for NEET UG 2026 based on this updated matrix.
