Noel Tata Appoints Bahram Vakil as Trent Chairman
· Business · Times of India, Indian Express
Noel Tata has selected Bahram Vakil, co-founder of AZB & Partners and a close friend, to succeed him as chairman of Trent, the Tata Group's fashion and retail flagship. Vakil will assume the role on November 12, the day after Noel Tata retires from the board-led position on November 11. This appointment has reportedly raised concerns within the Tata ecosystem, as Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran was not informed before the decision was disclosed to stock exchanges. Tata Sons holds a 32% stake in Trent and recently participated in its ₹2,500-crore rights issue. Vakil was appointed a non-executive director of Trent in April and is also considered a contender to succeed Noel Tata as chairman of Tata Investment.
Why it matters
This leadership change at Trent, a major retail entity, could influence its strategic direction and operations. The reported lack of communication with Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran highlights potential internal governance issues within the Tata Group.
