Norris triumphs at Sao Paulo GP after Antonelli and Russell errors
· Sports · BBC Sport, The Race
Lando Norris won the Sao Paulo Grand Prix from pole position after a dramatic finale in Interlagos. Kimi Antonelli, who had led for 13 laps, spun off at Turn One on lap 20 after complaining of strange car handling. George Russell, who started seventh, spun exiting the pits and lost 15 to 20 seconds. Despite their mistakes, Antonelli and Russell finished fourth and fifth respectively, securing the constructors' championship for Mercedes. Norris held off Max Verstappen, who recovered from 21st on the grid to finish second. The victory marked Norris's first win in over two months and his maiden pole-position success since the Spanish Grand Prix.
Why it matters
The race result handed Mercedes its constructors' championship a week after Kimi Antonelli clinched the drivers' title, confirming the team's dominant 2024 season. Norris's win ended his two-month winless streak and re-established McLaren as a front-running force in Formula 1.
