A Western Sydney couple, Venkatraman Balakrishnan, 52, and Chitra Venkatraman, 46, are among 15 Australians missing following catastrophic flash flooding in Nepal. The couple was part of a tour group organized by US-based hiking company Himalayan Glacier in the Langtang Valley when the disaster struck. Their son stated he last spoke to them when they were approximately 15 kilometres from the Tibet border. The tour company reported that a total of 47 people, including two Australian boys aged 11 and 14, remain unaccounted for in the region. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected mountainous district.
