NTA Allows NRI Candidates to Use Passport as ID Proof for JEE Main 2027

· India · Indian Express, NDTV

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has permitted Non-Resident Indian (NRI) candidates to use their passports as valid identity proof during JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration, addressing difficulties faced by applicants without Aadhaar, PAN, or driving licence. Registration for Session 1 began on October 24, with the deadline for applications without late fees set for November 22, followed by a late fee period until November 26. NTA confirmed the passport provision in response to a candidate's query on its official X account, specifically easing registration for NRI applicants. The examination is scheduled to be held on January 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28, 2027.

Why it matters

This change directly enables thousands of NRI students in countries without Indian identity documents to complete their JEE Main registration, removing a critical barrier to exam participation.
