Odisha and Chhattisgarh Move Closer to Resolving Mahanadi Water Dispute

The Mahanadi water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh has returned to the spotlight as the two BJP-ruled states signal progress toward an amicable resolution. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated in New Delhi that a framework for resolving the dispute would be released very soon, following a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Majhi noted that administrative and political pathways have been expanded alongside the ongoing legal proceedings before the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal. The Opposition BJD has questioned these ongoing talks, demanding greater clarity on the water-sharing arrangements between the two states.
