Odisha's New 160-km Coastal Highway to Reduce Travel Time by 2.5 Hours

The National Highways Authority of India is developing a 160-km greenfield coastal highway in Odisha to improve connectivity between Rameshwar and Paradeep. The project, approved at a total cost of Rs 8,300.79 crore, will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode with a design speed of 100 kmph. The route is divided into two packages, with the first 79.4-km section connecting Rameshwar and Konark as a four-lane highway, while the remaining 80.7-km stretch to Paradeep will be two-lane with paved shoulders. This corridor aims to bypass congested routes like NH-16 and NH-316, providing faster access to major landmarks including the Jagannath Temple, Konark Sun Temple, and the upcoming Puri International Airport. The highway will traverse the districts of Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur to alleviate traffic pressure on existing regional roads.
