Odisha teacher converts home into museum after 14 years collecting 1,000 rare objects
· Entertainment · Times of India, NDTV
Retired Urdu teacher Abdul Wadood Khan, 61, from Cuttack, Odisha, turned part of his home into Ama Sangrahalaya, a personal museum of over 1,000 old objects, after spending 14 years gathering gramophones, rare coins, and vintage newspapers. His collection spans pre-Independence and post-Independence periods, and he funded the effort through his own savings with assistance from former students, family, and friends. Khan began collecting in 2012 after being selected as a Scouts Master, which expanded his exposure to historical artifacts through Bharat Scouts and Guides and Red Cross exhibitions.
Why it matters
The museum offers students and visitors a tangible connection to everyday history that textbooks often omit, preserving objects from education, communication, transport, agriculture and culture for future generations.
