Officials Launch Joint Probe Into Espionage Ring Linked to Pakistan
· India · The Hindu, Times of India
Intelligence agencies, the Navy, and Anti-Terrorist Squads across roughly 10 states have launched a joint probe into an espionage ring that leaked sensitive national security data to Pakistani handlers. The Counter Intelligence police registered a case on September 9, 2026, after Navy personnel and civilians allegedly shared classified defense information linked to the Visakhapatnam Naval Base and other strategic locations. Investigators found that the suspects communicated using encrypted channels to transfer restricted data to Pakistan Intelligence Operatives. Authorities have seized mobile data, CCTV footage, and electronic devices, sending them to the Forensic Science Laboratory to trace financial transactions and suspicious contacts. Investigators are currently examining whether the suspects traveled to Pakistan, planned any attacks, or if personnel from other Naval commands are implicated in the network.
Why it matters
The breach compromises sensitive defense installations and strategic military data at the Visakhapatnam Naval Base and other critical locations, triggering a multi-state security overhaul.
