While a marketing campaign featuring Jason Kelce jokingly suggests using human urine to cool AI data centers, the industry already relies on recycled wastewater for cooling purposes. Data centers consume significant quantities of water to prevent server overheating, often through a process known as evaporative cooling. Recycled water, which undergoes treatment to remove contaminants, is used to offset the demand for potable drinking water in these facilities. Experts note that raw urine contains salts, bacteria, and organic matter that would cause mineral deposits and require constant maintenance in cooling towers. Consequently, while the concept of water reuse is a standard industry practice, the direct use of untreated human waste is not a viable or implemented cooling solution.
