On night of mayhem for Liverpool, Barcola arrives in style
· Sports · BBC Sport
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola defended his players after facing questions regarding the form of Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola. Wirtz delivered an assist as Liverpool secured a 6-3 victory over Austrian Bundesliga champions LASK in Linz. The match belonged to Barcola, who scored the first hat-trick of his career across club and country on his 238th appearance. The goals followed Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday and put the side back on the winning track. Barcola will now look to carry this form into the Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday.
Why it matters
The performance relieves pressure on Liverpool's high-priced signings and restores winning momentum ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture against Brentford.
