One person drowned and four others were feared swept away in a sudden flash flood at Kottappuzha near Amarambalam, Nilambur on Sunday afternoon, September 20, 2026. The incident occurred at Olarvattam Kadavu near 40 Cent Colony, Pookkottumpadam in Malappuram district, Kerala. According to residents, five people on the riverbank were caught in the unexpected surge. The body of the victim was recovered after a search, but the deceased has not yet been identified. Police said there was no rainfall in the immediate area and suspected the flash flood was triggered by heavy rain deep inside the forest.
