OpenAI and Google Wiz Uncover Critical PHP Vulnerabilities
· Technology · TechCrunch, Axios
The US National Security Agency issued an urgent warning after two critical security flaws were discovered in PHP, a programming language that powers roughly 70% of websites globally. The vulnerabilities, present in all PHP versions since version 5 released in 2004, allow attackers to infiltrate server file systems or connected databases. Artificial intelligence tools developed by OpenAI, including GPT-5.6 Sol, and Google's Wiz security platform discovered the flaws before malicious hackers could exploit them. The PHP Foundation has already released patches, and administrators running unsupported versions such as PHP 8.1 or older must update immediately. Officials noted that no active exploits in the wild have been reported so far.
Why it matters
Millions of websites and content management systems worldwide face potential server infiltration risks if administrators fail to apply the newly issued patches immediately.
