OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Warn of Imminent AI Cyberattack Surge
· Technology · CBS News, Times of India
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, CrowdStrike, Citi, Capital One, and dozens of other firms signed an open letter on Thursday warning of a "limited window" of months to prepare for sophisticated AI-enabled cyberattacks. The signatories said AI advances could help attackers target hospitals, tech firms, and other institutions while also giving defenders new tools to identify vulnerabilities. CrowdStrike's data showed AI-enabled attacks rose 89% in 2025 compared to 2024. The letter calls for shared threat intelligence, upgraded legacy systems, AI-equipped defenders, and government coordination on cyber defense funding.
Why it matters
Banks, hospitals, and tech firms face a narrow window to upgrade outdated systems and adopt AI-powered defenses before attackers weaponise the same models to automate phishing, vulnerability discovery, and large-scale intrusions.
