OpenAI Confirms Joint AI Safety Efforts With Anthropic And Google

· Technology · Times of India, TechCrunch, France 24

OpenAI has confirmed that it is actively collaborating with competitors Anthropic and Google DeepMind on artificial intelligence safety measures. Speaking at a Washington press briefing, OpenAI global policy chief Chris Lehane stated that collaborative talks between the three frontier developers have progressed over multiple weeks to address economic and national security concerns. Lehane emphasized that the firms do not require an antitrust exemption to align on security practices. The collaboration follows a 3,800-word open letter by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calling for a deliberate slowdown in leading-edge model upgrades, a premise supported by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI head Elon Musk. Lehane also noted that OpenAI is actively engaging U.S. lawmakers to endorse bipartisan governance legislation.

Why it matters
