OpenAI announced on 3 September 2026 the launch of GPT‑6 Astra, a model it says marks the beginning of artificial general intelligence and surpasses human performance on most economically valuable tasks. Co‑founder and president Greg Brockman described the release in a closed briefing, saying “Welcome to the AGI era.” Astra is built to operate across browsers, spreadsheets, websites and desktop applications, allowing users to give voice commands that the model turns into finished documents, presentations and even 3‑D games.
