Oura Adds Cardio Effort and VO2 Max Metrics to Smart Rings
· Technology · TechCrunch, Engadget
Oura is introducing two new fitness features, Cardio Effort and VO2 Max, to its smart ring lineup to help users track how workouts impact their bodies. The Cardio Effort metric measures how much a workout taxes the cardiovascular system relative to an individual's long-term resting heart rate, providing daily and weekly totals categorized into five effort levels. Meanwhile, VO2 max estimation is being rolled out through Oura Labs to passively measure long-term aerobic fitness using GPS-enabled workouts after five qualifying activities. The new capabilities are designed to help Oura differentiate its Gen3 and later rings amid rising competition from rivals like RingConn and Ultrahuman.
Why it matters
Advanced health tracking features give consumers deeper physiological insights into recovery and fitness, intensifying competition in the growing smart ring market.
