Over 22 Lakh Affected as Floods Hit 12 Bihar Districts

Floods in Bihar have affected over 22 lakh people across 12 districts, including Patna, Vaishali, Saran and Bhagalpur, the state Disaster Management Department said. The government has ramped up relief by raising community kitchens from 80 to 190 in a day, currently feeding about 2.51 lakh people, and deploying 1,429 boats for evacuation. Ten NDRF teams and 27 SDRF teams are assisting rescue work, while 171 medical camps and six boat ambulances have been set up. In Saran, one of the worst-hit districts, 2.33 lakh people in 109 villages were affected, 1,206 people evacuated and no deaths reported. Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal has sought a national disaster tag and an early visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The administration reported temporary cracks on the Trilokchak and Simaria embankments along the Ganga and is filling them on a war footing.
