Over 95,000 Form 7 Applications Marked Ineligible in Uttarakhand SIR

More than 95,000 of the nearly 1.73 lakh Form-7 applications filed during Uttarakhand's ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls have been marked as ineligible by election officials. The CEO's office said these applicants either failed to furnish documents sought during verification or did not appear for hearings themselves or through a family member. Over 85% of the 1,30,382 applications reported earlier came from four districts — Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Dehradun and Nainital. The CEO's office said the SIR process is being conducted in accordance with the rules and in a transparent manner.
Why it matters
Voters marked ineligible can still seek inclusion in the electoral roll by submitting Form 6, so the deletions are not yet final. The outcome will directly affect the franchise of residents in Uttarakhand's four most populous districts ahead of upcoming elections.
