Pak ISI Uses Social Media Honeytraps to Target Indian Defence Assets

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is increasingly using online entrapment and honeytrapping to target Indian defence and government officials. Investigators report that agents scan social media to identify vulnerable individuals, subsequently using WhatsApp accounts linked to Indian SIM cards to initiate contact. In a recent Delhi case, a couple allegedly procured eight Indian SIM cards for Pakistani handlers to facilitate these operations. Similar tactics were noted in the arrest of an Indian Air Force Wing Commander in May and the case of former DRDO scientist Pradeep Kurulkar, who was charged with leaking sensitive information.

Why it matters

The systematic use of honeytraps by foreign intelligence agencies poses a direct threat to India's national security by compromising sensitive defence information and personnel.
