Pakistan Deployed Spies To Locate Indian S-400 Systems
· India · India Today, Times of India, NDTV
Pakistan activated spies and sleeper cells within India to locate S-400 air defence systems during the May 2025 hostilities, according to retired Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra. Mishra, who led the Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor, stated that the Russian-made systems effectively prevented Pakistani fighter jets from approaching within 200 km of the Indian border. The Air Marshal noted that Pakistan also sought satellite intelligence from other nations to identify the locations of the missile batteries. India has inducted four squadrons of the S-400 system to date as part of a five-unit agreement signed with Russia in 2018. Operation Sindoor was launched by India as a retaliatory measure following a terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in 25 civilian deaths.
Why it matters
The disclosure underscores the high strategic value of the S-400 system in India's air defence posture and the intensity of intelligence efforts by Pakistan to counter it during active conflict.
