· Sports · BBC Sport, Times of India, ESPNCricinfo
Pakistan has dropped seven players and released head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and assistant Umar Gul following two consecutive defeats against England. The team has called up five uncapped players and two experienced batters for the third and final Test match scheduled to begin on September 9 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Among those dropped are Muhammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, and Khurram Shahzad, while Aamir Jamal and Muhammad Awais Jafar have been sent home. Pakistan's white-ball coach Mike Hesson and former Australia seamer Ashley Noffke will take over the coaching duties. The team struggled significantly in the opening Tests, failing to score more than 200 runs in any of their four innings.
Why it matters
The unprecedented mid-series overhaul signals a major shift in Pakistan's cricket strategy as they attempt to salvage the final Test against England after a poor performance.
