The meeting follows recent bilateral talks in February and September 2025, as well as the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025. Sharif is expected to address the UNGA on September 25, where he will likely raise Pakistan’s concerns over India’s suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, citing Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism. The treaty, brokered by the World Bank, governs water-sharing rights for six rivers between India and Pakistan. Sharif will also discuss Pakistan’s new security partnership with Saudi Arabia and Turkey, including the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed in August 2026.
