Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey to Discuss Houthi Engagement
· World · Times of India, Axios
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey will hold an emergency meeting in Riyadh next week to address recent Houthi attacks on Saudi territory. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the agenda includes exploring political engagement with the Iran-backed group as an alternative to kinetic military action. The meeting is being convened under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, a pact signed by the three nations in August to strengthen collective deterrence. While several other countries have expressed interest in joining the agreement, officials confirmed that new memberships will remain on hold until the pact becomes fully operational.
Why it matters
The meeting serves as the first major test of the newly formed trilateral defence pact, determining whether the alliance will prioritize diplomatic mediation or military response in the Middle East.
