Pakistan Team Withdraws From Legends Tournament Over Apology Dispute
· Sports · NDTV Sports, ESPNCricinfo
The Pakistan team has withdrawn from the ongoing legends cricket tournament after organisers reportedly demanded an apology from their players. The demand follows the Indian team's refusal to play against Pakistan during the previous season, a decision taken in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. While the Pakistan side sought to participate, the requirement for a formal apology led to their exit from the competition. The report does not specify the identity of the organisers or the exact timeline for the withdrawal. No official statement has been released by the tournament management regarding the dispute.
Why it matters
The incident underscores the ongoing impact of geopolitical tensions on bilateral sporting events between India and Pakistan, often resulting in the cancellation or withdrawal of teams from international tournaments.
