Pakistan Willing To Consider Visa For Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
· India · India Today, Hindustan Times, The Hindu
Pakistan's Foreign Office stated it would consider issuing a visa to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann if he applies to attend the World Punjabi Conference in Lahore on November 27. The invitation was extended to Mann, though he has expressed uncertainty regarding whether the Indian government will grant him permission to travel. The Kartarpur Corridor, which Mann previously suggested visiting with state assembly members, has remained closed to pilgrims from the Indian side since May 7, 2025. Pakistan reiterated its willingness to facilitate religious pilgrims once travel restrictions are lifted.
Why it matters
The potential visit highlights ongoing diplomatic sensitivities between India and Pakistan and the impact of border security closures on cross-border cultural engagement.
