Pakistani-Sindhi Brides Reach India via Transit Routes Amid Strained Bilateral Ties

Over 150 Pakistani-Sindhi women engaged to men in India have arrived in the country after their weddings were delayed due to the closure of the Wagah-Attari border. The border route was shut down following the implementation of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian armed forces on May 7 last year in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead. As part of diplomatic measures, New Delhi restricted visas and closed border routes for Pakistani visitors, leaving the brides-to-be stranded. Their long wait ended after the Centre issued visas to the women and their relatives following coordination by community leaders and the Raipur-based Sant Yudhishtirlal Shadaani of Shadaani Darbar. The brides and their families traveled to India through transit routes via Muscat, Dubai, and Sri Lanka to reach wedding destinations including Nagpur, Raipur, Jodhpur, and Pune.
