Palaniswami Demands Unpaid Salaries And Job Security For Vazhndhu Kattuvom Staff
· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami urged the Tamil Nadu government to disburse two months of pending salaries and ensure job security for contract staff under the Vazhndhu Kattuvom scheme. The World Bank-assisted rural transformation project employs over 4,400 workers, including supervisory officers and field staff across the state. Palaniswami noted that nearly 90 per cent of the supervisors hold postgraduate qualifications and have served on consolidated pay for up to 18 years. The project promotes rural entrepreneurship, micro-credit schemes, and women empowerment across Tamil Nadu. The state government expanded the initiative into Phase 2 on February 13, 2026, but workers have reportedly gone unpaid for two months.
